“My favorite Steve Duin column is one that doesn’t skewer me. My second favorite is one that focuses on the joys and challenges of raising a family. Father Time is an eloquent reminder that what occurs around America’s kitchen tables is far more important to the future of our society than what occurs around Capitol Hill conference tables.”
- Senator Gordon Smith
Fatherhood. Whether it’s coaching little league or coaching one’s kids through adolescence, author and columnist, Steve Duin, has been there. Emergency room visits, field trips, chaperoned dances, family vacations, sex talks, and rock concerts are all part of the deal. This selection of Duin’s columns which span twenty years chronicle the pains, joys and beauty of being a father.
STEVE DUIN is the Metro columnist at The Oregonian, where he has worked since 1980. He has three children, two relatively worthless English degrees from Wake Forest University, and one dauntless wife, Nancy, of 23 years. He is the co-author of three books: Comics: Between the Panels, Blast Off, and Indomitable Spirit: Life-changing Lessons in Leadership.
